BRISTOL, Tenn. – Anderson Compounding Pharmacy’s list of distinctive offerings has expanded and now includes Ultra High Performance Liquid Chromatography (UHPLC) verification on select formulations, a benefit provided by a limited number of pharmacies throughout the United States.
High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) verification is significant for the pharmaceutical industry because it ensures the potency of ingredients in a medication. This is particularly important for compounding pharmacies, which produce medications by combining individual ingredients to create the exact strength and dosage required by the individual patient. UHPLC verification offers considerable advantages over HPLC verification, enabling pharmacies to analyze greater volumes of active pharmaceutical ingredients at a much higher pressure, much more quickly and with greater precision than HPLC testing.
“UHPLC is incredibly important because it gives our patients peace of mind in knowing their prescribed medications contain the precise amount of each needed ingredient,” says Cleve Anderson, PharmD, owner and chief pharmacist of Anderson Compounding Pharmacy, located at 310 Bluff City Highway in Bristol, Tennessee. “In addition, this demonstrates our commitment to quality control and providing safe, compounded solutions for our patients.”
Anderson Compounding Pharmacy donated its HPLC equipment to the Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy at East Tennessee State University (ETSU).
“We are delighted to accept this HPLC equipment from Anderson Compounding Pharmacy,” says Charles Collins, RPh, PhD, professor of pharmaceutical sciences at ETSU. “The entire pharmaceutical industry is moving in the direction of HPLC verification to ensure accuracy in their solutions. It is important for our pharmaceutical students to use HPLC equipment to test compounds, and this generous contribution will serve as a valuable learning resource for our region’s future pharmacists.”
Earlier this year, Anderson became the only compounding pharmacy in Tennessee to earn both the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board’s (PCAB®) Seal of Accreditation and the Healthcare Quality Association on Accreditation’s (HQAA) Seal of Accreditation.
Anderson’s designation as a PCAB-accredited pharmacy demonstrates that the pharmacy meets the highest quality and safety standards in its profession. Anderson is only the sixth pharmacy in the state of Tennessee to earn this distinctive accreditation.
