BRISTOL, Tenn. – Anderson Compounding Pharmacy has earned the distinction of becoming the only compounding pharmacy in Tennessee to earn both the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board’s (PCAB®) Seal of Accreditation as well as the Healthcare Quality Association on Accreditation’s (HQAA) Seal of Accreditation.
Anderson’s recent designation as a PCAB-accredited pharmacy demonstrates that the pharmacy meets the highest quality and safety standards in its profession. Anderson is only the sixth pharmacy in the state of Tennessee to earn this distinctive accreditation.
“We are honored to receive this important [PCAB] accreditation,” says Cleve Anderson, PharmD, owner and chief pharmacist of Anderson Compounding Pharmacy, located at 310 Bluff City Highway in Bristol, Tenn. “Our designation as a PCAB-accredited compounding pharmacy lets our community know that Anderson ranks among the best for quality and safety. This accreditation confirms our commitment to providing safe, personalized solutions that meet the medical needs of our patients, as well as the needs of the health care providers in our region who rely on us for these specialized medicines.”
Formed by eight of the nation’s leading pharmacy associations, PCAB promotes, develops and maintains principles, policies and standards for improving the quality of pharmacy compounding nationwide. Of the approximately 7,500 U.S. pharmacies specializing in compounding, only 188 are PCAB accredited. The voluntary PCAB accreditation process required Anderson Compounding Pharmacy to complete an extensive application, which included the company’s written policies and a quality procedures analysis, as well as a rigorous on-site inspection.
In addition to its PCAB accreditation, Anderson Compounding Pharmacy has retained the HQAA Seal of Accreditation since 2011. HQAA is an independent third party that measures and rates businesses operating in the durable medical equipment industry. It also requires a comprehensive application process with an emphasis on quality.
While all pharmacies must be licensed, Anderson Compounding Pharmacy has taken additional steps to ensure quality in its processes and products by earning the PCAB and HQAA Seals of Accreditation.
Compounded medicationsare written by physicians, veterinarians and other legally authorized prescribers, and prepared for an individual patient by a specially trained pharmacist. These medications are unique in that they are made using a mix of individual ingredients to create the exact strength and dosage required by the needs of the individual patient.
